Long, narrow, and that is the useful shape
At 30 by 11.8cm this is not a breakfast tray and it is not trying to be. It is the shape that carries two cups and a small pot, sits along the middle of a table without taking it over, or holds oil, salt and pepper beside the hob. A wide tray needs somewhere to live. This one tucks anywhere.
A rim, not a wall
The edge is a soft rounded moulding rather than a straight sided box wall, and it is shallow. That is enough to catch a slipped cup or a drip of tea, but it keeps the tray reading as a piece of wood rather than a container, so it still looks right left out on a table with nothing on it. It also means the thing lies flat in a drawer or against the back of a cupboard.
One piece of wood, so no two match
The tray is cut from solid timber rather than laminated, so the grain runs the full length of it in one sweep and the figure lands wherever the board happened to fall. Yours will not look exactly like the photograph, which is rather the point.
Why you will love it
- Natural wood grain - every one is marked differently.
- Low rounded rim - holds things without getting in the way.
- Narrow footprint - runs along a table rather than occupying it.
- Light to carry - one hand, even loaded.
- Doubles as a plate - good for bread, cheese or a small mezze.
- Works everywhere - tea, coffee, condiments, bathroom bottles, a desk tidy.

Care
Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. Do not soak it, do not put it in the dishwasher, and do not leave a wet glass standing on it, since a ring in bare wood is very hard to lift once it has soaked in. A light rub of food safe oil once or twice a year keeps the grain dark rather than letting it go grey.
