Tall enough to reach across the table
At 22.5cm, eight inches, these are table mills rather than worktop ones. The height matters more than it sounds. You can grind over the middle of a dish without leaning, hold one in a fist rather than pinching it, and the extra length means fewer turns for the same amount of pepper.
One pale, one dark
The pair is deliberately mismatched in tone, pale oak and a warmer stained wood, which is the quickest way to tell salt from pepper across a table without picking either one up. Each also has a clear window band near the foot, so you can see what is in it and how much is left rather than unscrewing the top to find out.
Adjustable, which most cheap mills are not
The nut on top sets the gap in the grinding mechanism, so you can go from a coarse crack for a steak down to a fine dust for a sauce. A mill with a fixed grind only ever does one job, and it is usually not the one you want.

Care
Never wash them. Wood and a grinding mechanism both dislike water, and damp salt will clog a mill permanently. Wipe the outside with a dry cloth and, if the inside needs clearing, run a spoonful of dry rice through it. Use coarse rock salt rather than fine table salt, since fine salt packs down and jams the mechanism.

You have 14 days from the day your order arrives to tell us you would like to return it, and a further 14 days to send it back. Items must come back unused, undamaged and in their original packaging.
Return postage is paid by you, and the parcel is your responsibility until it reaches us, so please use a tracked service. You are welcome to inspect an item as you would in a shop. If it has been cooked with, eaten from, washed, sharpened or otherwise used or marked, we will deduct the loss in value from your refund, up to the full price where the item can no longer be resold.
