Six plates that were never meant to match
Each one carries a different hand painted pattern under the glaze. Put them on a table together and they behave like plates collected over years rather than bought in one go, which is the look people spend a long time trying to fake with mismatched charity shop finds.
The size that does the most work
These are side plates rather than dinner plates, roughly the width of a spread hand, which in practice means they are the ones in constant use. Bread and butter, a starter, cheese after dinner, olives and almonds with a drink, cake at four in the afternoon. They also make a decent serving dish for anything you want to put in the middle of the table.
Why you will love it
- Six different patterns - a set that looks gathered, not ordered.
- Painted under the glaze - a knife will not take the pattern off.
- Dishwasher safe - decorative, but not something you have to hand wash.
- Stacks flat - the whole six take very little cupboard.
- Doubles as serveware - good enough to put in the centre of the table.
- Pairs with the bowl set - same hand painted family if you want both.
Painted by hand, not printed
Look closely at the edge of any motif and the brush stroke is visible, slightly uneven where the hand moved. That is the difference between this and a transfer printed plate, and it is the reason no two plates in a set are ever quite identical.

Care
Dishwasher safe, though hand washing keeps the colours brightest over the long run. Do not stack them while still damp, since water trapped between glazed faces is what leaves faint grey marks on ceramic.
