Ceramic Salt Cellar with Pivoting Bamboo Lid and Spoon

A speckled stoneware pot with a pivoting bamboo lid and a small bamboo spoon. It holds around 300ml, which is a lot more salt than it looks, and the notch in the rim means the lid closes with the spoon still inside. Left on the hob side it stops being storage and becomes the thing you pinch from while you cook.

The lid swings, it does not lift

The bamboo disc turns on a small pin set into the rim, so a push with one finger opens a crescent wide enough to get the spoon or two fingers into, and the same finger closes it again. There is no lid to put down on a wet worktop and nothing to lose behind the hob. A bite is cut out of the disc so the spoon handle sits through it, which is why the spoon lives in the salt rather than in a drawer.

Big enough to stop refilling it

At 10.5cm across and 9.3cm tall the pot takes about 300ml, which swallows a whole box of flaked sea salt in one go. That is the difference between a salt pot you top up every week and one you fill and forget about.

Care

The ceramic can go in the dishwasher. The bamboo lid and spoon should be hand washed and dried, since a dishwasher cycle will dry bamboo out and lift the grain over time.
